• 建於1895年，「台北苗圃」孕育著各樣樹木植物；1921年改名為台北植物園，更擴大培育歐美澳非及東南亞等地所收集的樹種。園內有植物研究、林業試驗、植物保存與研究等多重功能。而台北許多國家級的博物館群也依著植物園而建成為南海學園，包括歷史博物館、中央圖書館等共為南海五館，是重要的社教設施。加上台灣博物館南門園區開放後，大南海地區成為台北最集中的文化館舍群聚地區。
  Taiwan’s 1^st botanical garden is more than a park. It was established in 1895, has collection of over 2000 species of plants and seeds, it systematically records and investigates plants and educate the general public about botany. Taipei’s first National Museum Group was also built surrounded the garden, including History Museum, National Library, which are vital socio-educational facilities.
